The Battle of Yorktown began on this day, September 28, and concluded with the British surrender three weeks later, on October 19, 1781.  One of the more famous paintings commemorating the battle is Siege of Yorktown (1781), painted in 1836 by French artist Louis Charles-Auguste Couder. In the painting, Washington and Rochambeau are discussing battle plans in front of Washington’s tent.

Who would have thought that 242 years later, our society would turn on the very people that fought for our freedom.  When avowed socialists in our society start pulling down statues of George Washington and erecting statues of George Floyd, it proves that the fight for freedom is just as important in 2023 as it was in 1781. Ironically, modern American patriots have something to learn from the British at the Battle of Yorktown, namely, fight hard before you surrender.  Before they gave up, the British fought admirably, and that’s more than can be said for patriots in America today. Modern American patriots surrender too quickly.
